Giant Manta Ray Scuba Dive - Hawaii!

Absolutely incredible! I saw this on a Youtube video somewhere and thought it would be amazing, just to be immersed in the experience, surrounded by these giant sea creatures, flourishing fish, and the bubbles from the air tanks that acted like glitter against the dark blue ocean back drop!

I initially thought this was too insane, like it was just a dream, and out of my reach. First I’d have to be able to afford a trip to Hawaii, also getting scuba certified, then overcoming a slight fear of being deep under the ocean’s surface at night in the dark surrounded by these giant beasts and god knows what other sorts of sea creatures that could be lurking in that black abyss with no escape to the surface for fear of getting the bends and my lungs exploding if I ascend too fast…. but no worries right ;)

If you have that attitude too, get rid of it! Take the first step! Then the next, then the next! I signed up for scuba diving lessons in my local city. I wasn’t even sure how much I’d like it, but I took that first step! A week later I had completed my pool dives and all that remained were my open water dives which our class drove 1.5 hours to do in a lake on a weekend.

Now that I was certified, I hit up some friends, and we booked a trip to Hawaii!

Logistics:

I booked my manta ray scuba diving excursion through Jack’s Diving Locker on Big Island,. You can find their website here:

https://www.jacksdivinglocker.com/

There are also several businesses on the islands that offer the excursion. Some do scuba diving as well, others just do snorkeling, some offer both (Jacks Diving Locker does both). Personally I wanted to scuba dive so that I would be more immersed in the experience. If you’re not a scuba diver or just want to go for a cheaper option, No Problem! You can snorkel at the surface at look down on the fun from above!

For snorkelling you basically just stay at the surface, holding onto what looks like a surf board with lights and then look down with your mask and snorkel.

I’ve always had good success booking excursions through Viator.com. So here’s some other options they offer. I didn’t book this trip specifically through Viator so if anyone tries these and you have a really bad experience please let me know and I’ll remove them. I don’t want to push anyone to an experience that sucks.
